Financial Controller
PortlandZiba’s people and their passion is what fuels our work every day. We are looking to support that energy by adding a Financial Controller to the Ziba Team. This role will be responsible for overseeing and managing the financial operations of Ziba Design. It combines strategic financial planning and analysis with operational financial management and control. The Controller plays a critical role in providing financial insights, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving the financial success of Ziba.
Responsibilities:
Planning:
- Develop and implement practices aligned with Ziba’s goals and objectives.
- Collaborate to establish targets and measure progress towards goals.
- Provide analysis, forecasting, and modeling to support decision-making.
Reporting:
- Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, bank reconciliations and variance analyses.
- Manage our banking relationships.
- Identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Report performance to the executive team and the board.
- Explain the meaning behind the numbers.
Budgeting:
- Lead the budgeting process. Work with Discipline Directors to set targets and allocate resources.
- Develop projections to support planning and resource allocation decisions.
- Monitor performance, identify variances, and implement corrective actions.
Operations and Controls:
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and general accounting.
- Maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with regulations and mitigate risks.
- Manage banking relationships, cash flow, and working capital.
- Oversee the administration of Ziba’s 401(k) plan to ensure performance and compliance.
- Manage month end closing including revenue generation and work in progress review.
Risk Management:
- Assess financial risks and manage insurance coverages.
- Review policies, terms, and conditions to ensure alignment with goals.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, accounting standards and tax laws.
- Coordinate services of our outside accounting firm.
Leadership:
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Provide guidance, mentorship and professional development opportunities to staff.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) desirable.
- Proven experience in financial leadership, ideally as a CFO or Controller.
- Strong knowledge of financial management principles, accounting standards and financial analysis.
- Ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
- In-depth understanding of regulations, compliance, and risk management.
- Proficient in financial software and systems (Deltek Vantagepoint knowledge preferred), with advanced Excel skills.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Strong leadership and management capabilities.
- Proven problem-solving and decision-making skills.
